The rapid expansion of intelligent technologies and their growing influence on educational systems have highlighted the need to reconsider the elementary curriculum. This study aimed to identify and explain the necessities of integrating artificial intelligence into Iran’s elementary curriculum. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach and conventional content analysis. The participants included experts in curriculum planning, educational technology, educational sciences, computer science, and experienced elementary school teachers. Eighteen participants were selected through purposive sampling until theoretical saturation was reached. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and were coded and analyzed concurrently with data collection using MAXQDA 2020 software. To enhance the trustworthiness of the findings, member checking, recoding of part of the data, comparison of perspectives across different groups of participants, and Lincoln and Guba’s criteria were used. The findings revealed six main categories regarding the necessity of AI integration into Iran’s elementary curriculum: personalized learning, enhancement of educational quality, development of twenty-first-century skills, educational equity and reduction of the digital divide, teacher empowerment, and alignment with cultural and ethical values. The analysis indicated that these categories were interpreted within the Iranian context through issues such as overcrowded classrooms, under-resourced schools, the central role of teachers, national-religious identity, the Persian language, and children’s data security. Overall, the purposeful integration of artificial intelligence into the elementary curriculum was identified as a strategic necessity for improving learning quality and preparing creative, responsible, and capable students for a technology-driven future.
