This research was conducted with the aim of exploring on the roles of Artificial Intelligence in the design and implementation of online educational programs. The research methodology was applied in terms of objective and qualitative based on the phenomenological (descriptive) approach in terms of data collection. The research participants population have formed of professors from Payame Noor University.The sampling method was theoretical purposive, where necessary data were collected from 15 faculty members of Payame Noor University until theoretical saturation was reached. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect the data. To ensure the validity of the instrument, the interview protocol was reviewed and approved by three experts in the field of educational technology and qualitative methodology. The analysis of the collected data was performed using the thematic analysis approach. In order to validate the coding process, Cohen's Kappa index was used, based on which the agreement coefficient between the two coders was 0/87; this value indicates an excellent level of agreement and indicates the desired reliability of the coding process. The results showed that the most important roles of AI include decision-making automation, learning personalization, content generation and automated feedback, pattern discovery and need prediction, class support and interaction, cultural and environmental adaptability, and algorithmic transparency. Therefore, the roles of AI in online education are the result of the interaction between technological capabilities and educational and social processes. In other words, AI is not only a technical tool but also an organizing and decision-making agent in the learning process.
